Increasing murder cases worry police

Harare (New Ziana) – Police have raised concern over increasing murder cases in country and urged people to value the sanctity of human life.

In the past week alone, five people were gruesomely murdered countrywide, three of them by their husbands over domestic differences.

Police national spokesperson, assistant commissioner Paul Nyathi attributed most of the murder cases to domestic violence.

“Most of these cases are mainly attributed to domestic violence arising from accusations of infidelity on the part of couples,” he said.

On Friday last week at Watyoka Mine in Concession, Nyarai Masauso (41) was allegedly struck with an axe several times on the thighs and stomach by her husband, only identified as Muridzi, who accused her of having an extra marital affair.

Masauso succumbed to her injuries at Parirenyatwa hospital, and the husband is now on the run.

On Saturday, Sikhangezile Tshuma, (39), was found dead in a shallow grave, covered with a cloth in a bushy area near Gulalikabili Line, Tsholotsho, with bruises all over her body and a deep cut on the forehead.

Police said Tshuma was last seen arguing with her husband Darlington Sibanda (36) at Patalika Business Centre, with with the spouse accusing her of having an extra-marital affair.

Rita Rore (42) of Flem Flora Farm, New Parliament, Mt Hampden, Harare was on Sunday allegedly struck with a hoe on the head several times by her husband Alexander Gezi (52) who also accused her of being unfaithful.

Rore was found dead with deep cuts on the head after her daughter had alerted neighbours about the attack.

“We urge couples to seek counselling from local police stations, traditional leaders and church elders to find peaceful ways of resolving differences,” said Nyathi.

Meanwhile, Fana Ntini (19) was allegedly stabbed by Darlington Tshuma (29) and Moses Moyo (31) with a Columbian knife in the stomach and died on the spot, while Jefta Mkwananzi (22) was stabbed on his right thigh, in a bushy area near Matambo Business Centre, Matobo.

Nyathi said Mkwananzi sustained a cut on the thigh and is admitted at Gweru Provincial Hospital.

At Fort Rixon, police are investigating the murder of Readman Ndlovu, (46) at a Shop at 99 Village, 5 Kombo.

Bethod Mthembu, Nkosi Mpofu and a 17-year-old boy took turns to assault Ndlovu with open hands before Mthembu took out a Columbian knife and allegedly stabbed him on the chest.

Ndlovu died on the spot.

Nyathi encouraged the public to resolve differences amicably, without resorting to violence.
