Harare, (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa said on Thursday as Matabeleland South province prepares to host this year’s Independence Day celebrations, several legacy developmental projects are being undertaken in the region.
The 46th Independence celebrations will be held in Maphisa, under the theme: “Zimbabwe at 46, Unity in Action, and Development in Motion, Towards Vision 2030.”
The choice of the venue is in line with the government policy to decentralise key national events, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity and national unity, while allowing all regions to meaningfully enjoy the fruits of the hard-won freedom, independence, and development.
“Accordingly, numerous independence legacy projects are underway, not only in Maphisa or Matobo District, but across Matabeleland South Province. Of note is the construction of the J.M.N. Nkomo Vocational Training Centre, which will have a positive impact on the empowerment and skills opportunities for the youth of that region. Other projects include the construction of an additional block at the J.M.N. Nkomo Polytechnic College in Gwanda.
“The upgrade of infrastructure and the equipping of science laboratories in schools throughout the province, as well as facelifts to historic schools such as Manama High, Minda Mission, and Thekwane, among others, are progressing well. Kezi Rural Hospital is also being modernised. Road rehabilitation is underway across all districts. Zanu PF is leaving no one and no place behind,” he said.
President Mnangagwa urged all party structures throughout the provinces to mobilise citizens to celebrate Independence Day.
“This should not only be in honour of the sacrifices that brought us independence, but also as a demonstration of the confidence and optimism we all have for a more prosperous future for our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe. The journey ahead demands unity, discipline, and unwavering commitment,” he said.
He reiterated that the Central Committee remains a vital cog of the ruling Zanu PF party and implored members of the organ to preach unity in the communities they serve.
“At this critical stage of our socio-political and economic era, let us continue to provide pivotal leadership and guidance. Our individual and collective patriotism, loyalty to the party ideals, and clarity of vision must be unquestionable.
“Let us preach unity, peace, hope, and development among our membership and across the communities we serve. These values are central and enduring to our revolutionary mass party, Zanu PF,” he said.
