Gweru (The Times-New Ziana) -Two former love birds are battling for their lives at the Gweru General Hospital after the man stabbed the woman several times all over the body on Wednesday and later tried to commit suicide.

According to Midlands provincial police spokesperson inspector Joel Goko, Bruce Siwela (29) allegedly stabbed ex-girlfriend Dephine Ndebele (30) several times all over the body after she refused to reconcile with him.

It is alleged that on Wednesday at around 09:30 hours, Siwela went to his ex-girlfriend’s house in Mkoba 18 to seek reconciliation, after their relationship had broken down.

Insp Goko said Ndebele refused to reconcile with Siwela and a misunderstanding arose.

“The suspect (Siwela) armed himself with a knife and stabbed his ex-girlfriend several times all over the body,” he said.

“She fell down in a pool of blood and after noticing that she had become unconscious, Siwela cut his throat in a bid to commit suicide.”

A report was made at ZRP Nehanda who attended the scene and found both Siwela and Ndebele unconscious. They were taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital where they are currently admitted.

    Siwela is under police guard.

Insp Goko appealed to members of the public to solve their disputes or differences amicably by engaging a third party in order to manage their anger.

“Use of violence constitutes an offence and leads to unnecessary loss of lives,” he said.
