MARONDERA- Kotwa United which finished third in the ZIFA Mashonaland East Division 2
league has started making preparations for the coming season which will kick off in March.
The league championship was clinched by Andrew Gore’s FC Hunters who earned the ticket to
join the Eastern Region Division 1 league which is made up teams from Mashonaland East,
    Manicaland and Masvingo provinces.
The champions amassed 54 points while second-placed Chivhu, who will also join the eastern
region league on invitation, finished the season with a points tally of 51.
Kotwa United had 49 points and one of the club’s directors Kudakwashe Tinarwo told
Chaminuka Sport that they will stop at nothing to make sure that they earn automatic
    qualification into the regional league.
“Last season, our team always performed at the top level in all the matches that we played in
the league but unfortunately, we lost out on promotion. Two points separated us from the
team that finished the league race on second position while five points separated us from the
    champions.
“That alone shows that we always did the right thing and we became one of the most feared
teams in the league. We were disappointed to lose out on promotion but at the same time, the
fact that we gave the top two teams a good run for their money shows that we were very
competitive. With extra hard work, we are aiming at winning the championship this season and
join the regional big boys,” Tinarwo said.
He said they will maintain the technical bench that guided the team last season and insinuated
that they may add a few players with the right qualities to the squad.
“The final log standings show that our technical bench was spot on most of the times and the
determination and commitment shown by players who did duty for us was very encouraging.
We won 15 matches, drew and lost four respectively to accumulate 49 points.

That was a better return than most teams that have been plying their trade in the league for
several years. Because of that, we came to the decision that we will not hire new coaches and
the majority of the players will remain in squad for the sake of continuity,” he said.
Kotwa United was formed in 2018 and the club was registered and affiliated with Zifa Mash
    East in the same year.
Tinarwo added that the team will remain a community project for Mudzi district.
“That was the idea when we formed the team. Kotwa United is a community project that
encompasses all the stakeholders within the district. No-one solely owns Kotwa United but its a
project where volunteers had to sacrifice their financial resources financial, time and
knowledge to oil this prestigious project.
“The team's executive comprises of dedicated people who go beyond their means to make the
Kotwa United brand succeed to this day. The main sponsors are myself, Bhuringe Mucharwa,
and Mezah Chitsinde. We put our heads together and pulled resources to sustain this brand
which we are confident will be a force to reckon with in football circles with time,” he said.
The club will also focus on developing young talented players from the district.
“As I have said earlier, the team`s aspiration and vision is to be a dominant football force in
Mash East and beyond. We are not playing Division 2 football for entertainment only but also to
win the division and move further. The other goal is to develop young talent from our pool of
players. We want to see our players moving forward playing for bigger clubs in Division 1 and in
    the Premier Soccer League.
“The team does not only represent Kotwa Growth Point but we are football ambassadors for
the whole district. Our players come from as far as Nyamapanda, Chingwena, Chisvo and
Nyahuku. Literally we have players from all corners of the district. Some players have come as
far as Mutoko, Buhera and Harare,” he said.
Some of the team’s key players who performed well last season strikers Farai Mabhandi and
Tinashe Nehumambi, defenders Adam Chipembere and Courageous Kaweredzi as well as
    midfielders Wayne Jogo.
