Kwekwe proposes standstill 2024 budget

Share

KWEKWE City Council has proposed to continue using the 2023 tariffs for the year 2024.
This was confirmed by Kwekwe City Council Director of Finance Rejoice Dandira when she presented
the 2024 budget proposal to councillors and ward development committee members at the Kwekwe
Civic Centre.

We are proposing a stand still budget for 2024, said Dandira.
KCC rolled out their 2024 budget consultation meetings starting with ward development committees
and councillors meeting.

Each councillor brought in four members of his or her ward development committee including
youths.

KKCC town clerk Dr Lucia Mkandhla said ward development committees are the key enablers of
development.

Ward development committees are very important structures of local government operational
systems.

“You elected councillors to represent you but you are part of local government structures.
“When we are doing budget consultations, we start with ward committees so that you have an
understanding of the processes first.

“You will be assisting your councillor in unpacking the budget presentation in your respective
wards, said Dr Mkandhla.

Some of the charges that will be brought forward from this year include US$6 for refuse removal in
both high and low-density areas.

Sewer is proposed to remain at US$5 in both high and low-density areas.
Water will remain at US$0.85 in high-density and US$0.90 in low-density areas.
Some residents proposed to have different tariff charges in high and low-density areas considering
the different lifestyles and financial purse.

Those from high-density areas felt it was unfair to be charged the same amount with low-density
areas.
