Kwekwe (New Ziana) – Midlands provincial education director, Jameson Machimbira has applauded schools in the Kwekwe district for their advanced preparations for re-opening after extended closure due to Covid-19.

Speaking at the launch of the state of preparedness for reopening of schools at Kwekwe Primary School, Machimbira said he was impressed by progress in the district, including equipping the facilities with Personnel Protective Equipment such as face masks and sanitizers.

Kwekwe district has 137 primary schools and 56 secondary schools, including 34 satellite schools, with an enrollment of 97 865 learners and 3 219 teachers.

“Kwekwe as a district you are ready for the opening of the schools, even though you might have some problems you are facing, at least you are moving in the right direction,” Machimbira said.

He urged school authorities to approach stakeholders who could render further support in their preparations for the re-opening.

“The key issue here is that the children need to be protected. Therefore, comply 100 percent with the requirements set by the Ministry of Health and Child Care before opening the schools. Stakeholders are ready to give you necessary assistance,” he said.

Machimbira said a team of education inspectors will be moving around to check schools’ preparedness for re-opening to ensure that learners are safe from Covid-19.
