Kwekwe (New Ziana) – Twelve armed robbers who pounced on a fuel service station in Kwekwe last week and got away with over US$580 000 and R58 000, are still on the loose, police have said.

National police spokesman Paul Nyati said investigations into the case, one of the biggest robberies in the country, were continuing.

He said police were appealing for information from members of the public on the case, which happened on November 28 in the industrial area of the city.

“Anyone with information (should) report at any police nearest police station,” Nyati said.

At least twelve robbers, armed with a pistol and AK riffle, allegedly pounced on Major Petroleum Fuel Station at night and tied up guards manning the premises, before breaking into the safes and stealing the money.

A total of US$582 540 and R58 430 was allegedly stolen.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects, but Nyati said these have remained illusive.
