Gweru (New Ziana) – A couple from Lower Gweru, Midlands Province was recently found dead in a suspected case of murder and suicide.
The couple’s two-year-old daughter was found sleeping beside her mother’s body in good health.
Midlands Province Police confirmed the incident which occurred in Village 2 Bhudha on Sunday.
Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko identified the couple as Mkhokheli Sibanda (31) and his wife Zanele Sibanda (17).
“Circumstances established during investigations are that, the two had been on separation following infidelity issues. At around 1700 hours 12 December 2021, Zanele passed through Sibanda’s homestead while visiting her mother who resides in the same area.
“The following day on 13 December 2021 at about 5AM, a passer-by saw Sibanda’s body hanging from a tree in a nearby bush,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said Zanele’s body was then discovered two kilometres away from where her estranged husband’s body was found.
The bodies were taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
“We once again reiterate that when differences arise among people and in marriages, always seek mediation before situations go out of hand. Lives are precious and should be preserved whenever possible,” said Insp. Mahoko
