CHINHOYI – A 32-year-old man was arrested and taken to court after assaulting
another man.
In the matter between the State and Cosmas Gwanyanya of Magogi Village 3 Farm,
it shows that Gwanyanya is being charged with assault of and theft from Meki
Nerutanga (25) of Hunyani Chinhoyi after assaulting him.
Gwanyanya was given 12 months in which six months were suspended and the
other six months were converted to 210 hours of community service at Magogi
Secondary School after he admitted to the charges against him.
The court heard that on September 3 at Golden Kopje Mine Nerutanga saw
Gwanyanya fighting Bigboy Masocha and intervened to stop the fight.
However, while in the process of trying to stop the two fighting, Nerutanga lost his
car keys.
Nerutanga then left the two to go and look for his keys and when he found them, he
went back to Masocha. That is when he was hit on the neck with hosepipe by
Gwanyanya.
Nerutanga ran away after he was assaulted on with a hosepipe and trying to hit him
with an empty bottle which, fortunately, missed him.
During this mayhem, Nerutanga lost all his belongings, including his cell phone, cash
and identity card.
In a similar case of violence, Mike Nyambe (25) Chatorora Village, Kenzamba, was
given 105 hours community service at Hodzi Primary School after the other three
months with 105 hours were suspended for good behaviour.
The court heard that on August 1, Nyambe arrived at their homestead where his
sister, Janet Kapita (33), was outside cooking and demanded food. Nyambe was told
that the food was not yet ready, this did not go well with him and he started shouting
at his sister.
He then proceeded to take a wooden log, which was in the fire and threw it at his
sister. It hit her on the right shoulder. The log then proceeded to hit Nyambe’s niece
(1) on the face.
A report was made and Nyambe was arrested.
