Man dies after attack

Share

A 29-year-old man from Madziwa died over the weekend from injuries he sustained
after being beaten up by fellow villagers who failed to identify him after he knocked
on one of the door of one of the houses in the village early on Monday morning last
week.

Mashonaland Central acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Tonny
Nyandoro, identified the deceased as Gabriel Mombeyarara.

He said on November 5, Gabriel Mombeyarara passed through Emily Garawaziva’s
place in Mazhiwawawa Village, Chief Mutumba, Madziwa around 1am.

He knocked on Garawaziva’s door and when she came out she could not
immediately identify him and she called out to her 17-year-old nephew, Gerald
Mubaiwa.

Mubaiwa came out and apprehended Mombeyarara before stabbing him on his left
arm.

He also bashed him with open hands before releasing him.

Mombeyarara, who is from the same village then walked out of Garawaziva’s yard
towards his homestead but could, however, not make it due to excessive bleeding.

He then slept close to an open well within the village where he was noticed by
another village, Ottilia Chigwete, around 6am with his clothes soaked in blood.

Chigwete went on to advise Kindon Mazhiwawawa of Mombeyarara’s condition and,
together, they took him to Madziwa rural clinic, where he was further referred to
Bindura Provincial Hospital for further attention.

However, on November 10 Mombeyarara succumbed to the injuries.

Gerald Mubaiwa is currently on the run with police appealing for assistance from
anyone in locating him.
