Harare, (New Ziana) –A 22-year-old man from Mufakose
high density suburb on Thursday handed himself over at the Marimba
Police Station after allegedly killing his mother and attempting to kill
his five-year-old niece.
In a post on X, the Zimbabwe Republic Police said Nyasha Bandawe (22)
handed himself in and is assisting with investigations into the murder
of his mother, Hilda Drawu (59) and the attempted murder of his five
-year-old niece.
Sources familiar with the matter say Bandawe stabbed his mother several
times on the neck with a kitchen knife after she caught him trying to
rape his five year old niece.
“The suspect stabbed the victim several times on the neck with a kitchen
knife before hiding the body under the bed and locking the bedroom door.
He then took a screwdriver and went on to stab his 5-year-old niece
several times on the neck before fleeing,” the police said.
“The injured minor was referred to Sally Mugabe Hospital for treatment.”
Meanwhile, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPAZ), Razane Muyambo
(42) of Green Valley in Chipinge appeared at the Chipinge Magistrates’
Court on attempted murder charges for allegedly bludgeoning a rival
suitor.
The NPAZ said the incident occurred on February 4 this year at the
homestead of an elderly woman in the same village where the woman at the
centre of the love rivalry, Tafadzwa Makuyana stayed.
The victim, Robert Mtisi, who is also romantically involved with
Makuyana, arrived at the scene about two hours later resulting in a
confrontation which escalated into a fight between the two men.
During the fight, Mtisi picked up stones and struck Muyambo who
retaliated by grabbing a machete and struck Mtisi three times on the
head, causing severe injuries.
Mtisi collapsed and Makuyana screamed for help, prompting Muyambo to
flee from the scene, leaving Mtisi injured and bleeding. The complainant
was rushed to Mt Selinda Hospital, where he remains admitted.
Muyambo is due back in court on February 13.
