Harare, (New Ziana) – A 34-year-old man from Madlambuzi hasbeen jailed for 20 years for literally turning his biological daughter (13) into a wife and fathering a child with her.
The National Prosecution Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), in a post on X, said the rape of the girl began sometime in February 2020 and stopped in January this year when she eventually mustered enough courage to confide in her mother about the abuse.
The abuse started when the man had been left at home with the girl, who
was 13 years old at the time.
He threatened to beat her up if she disclosed the matter to anyone and continued to rape her every time he was left alone with her.
The girl fell pregnant and gave birth in June 2021. The man threatened to kill her if she ever disclosed that he was the father of the child.
The rape continued until January 2024 when the girl confided in her mother about the abuse and a police report was made through the Department of Social Welfare leading to the man’s arrest.
Meanwhile, the NPAZ also reports that the Bulawayo Magistrates Court confiscated over US$14 000 and 400 Rand in fake notes from a Cowdray Park traditional healer who used the fake money to dupe people out of their money.
Misheck Ncube (42) was ordered to perform 140 hours of community service in place of his initial six months jail term.
The court conditionally suspended two months of the jail term and the remaining four months on condition he performed 140 hours community service. The US$14 870 and 400 Rand fake money was forfeited to the State.
Police arrested Ncube after receiving information on May 27 that he was in possession of counterfeit money at his residence. Detectives apprehended Ncube at the Tredgold Building which houses the Bulawayo Magistrates Courts on the same day and took him to his residence where they found a plastic bag with the fake money stashed under a pillow in his bedroom.
Ncube told the court that he used the counterfeit money in his traditional practice to deceive his victims into believing that they could attain wealth through money rituals, requiring an initial payment of up to US$5 000 in some instances.
His promise was merely a ruse designed to exploit the victims. When his victims came to complain that the rituals had not worked, he would claim that the victims had failed to perform the enchantment correctly, thereby rendering the ritual ineffective. He would then refuse to refund the victims.
