Share

MUTARE-A 30-year-old man allegedly killed his friend for flirting and
proposing love to his girlfriend, during a beer binge in Rusape recently.
Fidelis Mushakwa (32) of Zumbani Village, Chief Makoni, Ruspae was
drinking with his friend Innocent Chin’ono (30) at Manjeese Business Centre
when they two had a misunderstanding over the bar lady.
Mushakwa after having had one too many went on to flirt and pour out his
affection for the bar lady who happened to be Chin’ono’s girlfriend.
Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the
incident in which a brawl ensued between Mushakwa and Chin’ono leading to
Mushakwa’s death.
“Mushakwa proposing love to Chin’ono’s girlfriend while the two were having
a drink at the bar did not go down well with Chin’ono. This resulted in the two
getting into a fight immediately after they left Manjeese Business Centre,” said
Inspector Muzondo.
On their way home, Chin’ono assaulted Mushakwa and left him lying
unconscious by the roadside.
He went on to inform Mushakwa’s mother that her son was lying unconscious
by the wayside that night. The next morning, Mushakwa was found still lying
by the roadside with a swollen face and head.
He was immediately rushed to Rusape General Hospital and later transferred to
Sally Mugabe Hospital where he passed away on admission as he succumbed to
his injuries.
Meanwhile, a play date for three minors ended in tragedy in Chisumbanje,
Chipinge when Ngonidzashe Mtetwa (8) succumbed to injuries from a play
fight.
Inspector Muzondo said Ngonidzashe in the company of his twin brother,
Kudakwashe went to their neighbours place for a play date with one of their age
mates.
Ngonidzashe then engaged in an imitated wrestling fight with their friend
resulting in him being kicked on the knee, back and chest.

After surrendering to the defeat, Ngonidzashe and his twin went back home as
usual.
“The following morning after the play date, Ngonidzashe woke up complaining
of a painful leg. He was taken to St Peters Hospital for a medical examination
and treatment. This was followed the next day with complaints of chest and
abdominal pains to which the mother became suspicious of the underlying
cause. The boy was questioned over the matter and later revealed he has
sustained injuries during a play fight with his friend,” confirmed Insp Muzondo.
A report regarding the matter was made to Chisumbanje police while
Ngonidzashe was transferred to Victoria Chitepo Hospital for treatment where
four days later he died.
Inpsector Muzondo urged the public to value the sanctity of life and to take care
of the mental, psychological and social well-being of love ones as these cases
are difficult to tackle through one lens.
