Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Republic Police has warned the public against leaving their vehicle engines running when they disembark to carry out some tasks, as they risk losing the valuable assets to thieves.

The warning follows an incident that occurred last Friday when a man from Eastlea in the capital, lost his Orange Proton Gen 2 GLS vehicle after he left it idling while he went to open the gate, and a thief jumped behind the wheel and sped off.

The police appealed for anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.

Separately, the police are investigating a robbery that occurred on Sunday in Glendale, about 60 kilometers northeast of the capital, in which seven unidentified male suspects who were wearing face masks and armed with a pistol and a 14 pounds hammer, attacked a housekeeper and snatched US$700 from his trouser pockets.

The incident occurred around 2 AM and the suspects went on to break into a safe in the house and stole US$15 600, at least 2.3 grams of gold and a 25 kg gas tank.

In Beitbridge a police operation dubbed ‘no to cross border crimes’ netted Shameful Kutadza (35) driving a contraband-loaded Mazda T35 along the Beitbridge-Pande Road.

The vehicle was loaded with 11 bales of blankets and 80 cases of various types of beers that were being smuggled from neighbouring South Africa.

Separately, two 13-year-old juveniles are helping the police with investigations into the death of a 3-year-old boy on Sunday in Chikoto village, chief Zimuto, Masvingo.

The juveniles are alleged to have assaulted the toddler with sticks accusing him of bed wetting. The toddler succumbed to injuries sustained during the assault at Masvingo General Hospital where he was receiving treatment.

In another case of murder in Masvingo, Tanaka Hora (26) is being held in connection with the death of Jefrees Mukonzi (21) who he is alleged to have struck with a flat piece of timber on the head on Saturday at Rumwanda Business Centre.

Mukonzi died while receiving treatment at Chipanda Clinic in Masvingo.
