Harare, (New Ziana) Two Bindura juveniles are lucky to be alive after the kitchen hut they were sleeping in was allegedly set ablaze by a man who is now on the run, said a senior police officer.

‎In a statement, national police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the suspect, Polite Chikwita is now being sought by the police in connection with the matter.

‎“Police in Bindura are investigating a case of attempted murder in which two male juveniles (14 and 10) sustained burns all over the body after the kitchen hut in which they were sleeping was set on fire at Chevakadzi Village on June 6, 2025 at around 1 am,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

‎He appealed to anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Chikwita to contact the nearest police station.

‎Meanwhile, Commissioner Nyathi said police in Harare are also appealing for information which may assist the investigation of a fatal hit and run road traffic accident in which a 34-year-old man died on the spot after being hit by an unknown motorist who did not stop after the accident on June 6 this year at around 3am along Dzivarasekwa Way near Dzivaresekwa High School.

‎In another incident, a suspected Harare fraudster who allegedly swindled another person of over US$16 000 in a botched motor vehicle importation deal has been arrested.

‎Commissioner Nyathi said Issac Dhliwayo (52) has since been picked up by the police in connection with the matter and is assisting them with investigations.

‎“The suspect allegedly misrepresented to the complainant that he would facilitate the importation of a 2016 honda fit Vezel valued at US$14 000.

‎The complainant paid the suspect US$16 130 cash which was supposed to cover the importation costs and sundry expenses,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

‎However, Dhliwayo failed to deliver the vehicle and instead converted the money to his own use, said Commissioner Nyathi.
