Harare (New Ziana) – Masvingo and Midlands provinces were voting in Zanu PF primary elections on Sunday to select party candidates for the upcoming general elections, a day after all other provinces did so.
Voting in the two provinces was postponed on Saturday due to some logistical difficulties encountered.
Heavy but orderly voting was reported in most parts of the two provinces, although in some areas this was delayed due to the late arrival of ballot papers at polling centres.
Masvingo and Midlands provinces, with over 1 400 candidates each, had the highest number of aspirants vying for election.
The candidates were running for local government and parliamentary election slots for the ruling party.
Apart from delays in the dispatch of ballot papers to voting centres, the only other notable hiccup was the missing names of some prospective voters in the party’s voters roll.
In the election, the party was using its cell registers as voters roll. The cell registers contain the names of all party members.Â
In Mkoba South constituency, around 150 prospective voters were turned away because their names were missing in the local cell register.
Winners will represent Zanu PF in the local government and parliamentary segments of the general election expected around mid-year.
