MASVINGO – Masvingo Teachers’ College will hold its 2026 graduation ceremony on Thursday, July 16, as the institution continues to expand its academic programmes and strengthen the training of future educators equipped with modern skills.
The graduation ceremony will be held at the college’s Graduation Arena and will begin at 8am with student rehearsals scheduled for today, July 15.
The ceremony comes at a time when the government teacher training institution under the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development is intensifying efforts to align teacher education with national development priorities through increased focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Acting Principal Faustinous Mushosho said the college is committed to producing educators with skills relevant to the demands of the 21st century.
“As we embark on another academic year, we have set our sights on expanding our package in STEM/STEP disciplines, to include our commitment to equip students with the prerequisite skills compliant with the 21st century,” said Mushosho.
The college has introduced new learning areas including Food Technology and Design, Textile Technology and Design, and Physical Education, Sports and Mass Displays.
Plans are also underway to introduce Building Technology and Design as well as Music Technology and Design as part of efforts to broaden academic offerings and promote innovation-driven education.
Acting Principal Mushosho said the expansion of programmes was in line with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), which calls for increased uptake and application of STEM disciplines.
Masvingo Teachers’ College, located about five kilometres south of Masvingo City, was established in January 1981 with a mandate to train primary and secondary school Science teachers.
The institution began operations at Morgenster Teachers’ College before moving to Andrew Louw in July 1981 to allow for expanded operations. Over the years, the college has produced more than 20 000 graduates and currently has 98 lecturing staff members supporting its academic programmes.
The institution has set an enrolment growth target starting with 250 students and aims to increase intake by 10 percent annually until 2028.
The 2026 graduation ceremony will provide an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of graduates while highlighting the college’s contribution towards Zimbabwe’s education sector and Vision 2030 aspirations through the production of skilled and innovative teachers.
