HARARE, (New Ziana) — The Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage has announced that the late national hero, Ambassador Victor Matemadanda who died on Saturday, will be laid to rest at the National Heroes Acre in Harare on Friday.
President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is expected to preside over the burial ceremony.
In a statement, the Ministry outlined the programme leading to the burial, with proceedings beginning on Wednesday when his body will be airlifted from Harare to Gokwe Centre in Midlands Province for a brief ceremony scheduled to commence at 1000 hours as the nation pays its final respects to the liberation war veteran, diplomat and national leader.
“The late Ambassador Victor Matemadanda will be flown from Gokwe Centre to Village 9C, Golden Resettlement in Sanyati, Mashonaland West Province where he will lie in state at the family residence.
A provincial send off ceremony for the late national hero will be held on Thursday, 25th of June 2026,” said the statement.
Later on Thursday, Ambassador Matemadanda’s remains will be flown back to Harare where upon arrival, his body will lie in state at his Harare residence at 2037 Mt Pleasant Heights ahead of the national burial.
Burial proceedings at the National Heroes Acre will take place on Friday morning.
Ambassador Matemadanda’s death is a huge loss of a veteran of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle and a public servant whose contributions spanned military, political and diplomatic assignments.
Government has encouraged members of the public wishing to attend the ceremonies to observe the announced programme and pay their respects in an orderly manner.
