MBERENGWA – Ten unidentified men pounced on Overt Mine in Mberengwa and allegedly
assaulted the workers and made off with two tonnes of gold ore and other valuables on Monday
evening.
Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson for the Midlands province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko
said police has since launched a manhunt for the robbers.
It is alleged that on November 6 at around 10 pm, the 10 armed robbers went to Overt Mine,
Ziyalanda in Mberengwa where they tied and assaulted the five workers who were on night duty.
The robbers were armed with machetes, knives and logs.
The complainants, Charles Shoko (45), Respect Shumba (44), Thulani Moyo (23), Tafadzwa Ignatious
(22) and Abdula Zana (19) allegedly surrendered their cellphones before they were force-marched to
the mine shaft which had about two tonnes of gold ore. They were forced to load the gold ore into a
truck which they had brought with them.
Insp. Mahoko appealed for information that may assist in the matter to approach any nearest police
station.
