Mbizo win second NPL match

KWEKWE – Groundsman-cum-bowler Abel Chirimuta's superb bowling, dazzled Bulawayo Athletic
Club (BAC) as Mbizo Cricket Club registered their second National Premier League victory at Kwekwe
Sports Club by eight wickets.
Chirimuta's cricket career is more of a fairytale story. The former football player works as a
groundsman for Rhinos at Kwekwe Sports Club. His remarkable fine bowling has seen him chip in
with key wickets for his team.
Against BAC, he had a good game and was named player of the match after taking four wickets from
6.5 overs with one maiden. He could have bagged six wickets had but club captain Tafara Chingwara
and Jabulisa Tshuma held on to their catches.
BAC batted first and were bowled out for 87 runs in 28.5 overs. The 50 overs match was over at
lunch break as Mbizo reached the target in 14.5 overs losing two wickets in the process.
Chirimuta has so far played 18 games for Mbizo, including NPL and Rhinos domestic league. He has
36 wickets and has contributed 47 runs to the cause.
Mbizo's opening batsman Clifford Takaedza continued with his good form, scoring 34 runs from 33
deliveries – hitting four fours and two sixes.
Mbizo have discovered their winning formula late as the league ends on September 20. Despite
winning against BAC, Mbizo are still second from bottom ahead only to winless Golden Bulls.
Gladiators, Takashinga 2 and Takashinga are in hot pursuit for the 2023 NPL title.
Gladiators sit at the apex of the log with 110 points from 12 games – winning 11 matches and have
one defeat. Takashinga 2 are second with 106 points, losing one game. Takashinga 1 have 100 points
from 12 games and have lost two games. Uprising have the same number of points (100) but are in
fourth position.
Mbizo takes on Kadoma Cricket Club in their last NPL match at Kwekwe Sports Club.
