Harare, (New Ziana) -Condolences continue to be received over the three Highlanders Football Club executives who perished in a car crash last week together with a charismatic club member, with Gweru based business conglomerate River Valley Group of Companies on Sunday joining the nation in paying tribute to the deceased.
The Highlanders Football Club executive members died in a fatal road accident on the Harare-Bulawayo Highway, approximately 60 kilometres outside Bulawayo on Thursday, after their Ford Raptor was involved in a collision that left the vehicle mangled and the occupants trapped in the wreckage.
The crash claimed the lives of team chairman Kenneth Mhlophe, vice-chairman Sifiso Siziba, treasurer Nkani Khoza and club member Mbalenhle Sibanda, who were travelling from Kariba, where the club had played ZPC Kariba in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match on Wednesday afternoon.
In a condolence statement, the River Valley group of companies said its chairperson, Dr Mncedisi Dube, chief executive officer, Prof Smelly Dube, management and staff were all heartbroken by the loss.
“We are deeply saddened by this immense loss. Their passion, dedication and outstanding service to Highlanders Football Club and the sport fraternity will forever be remembered and cherished,” it said.
The Government of Zimbabwe has sent its condolences through Finance Minister Hon Prof Mthuli Ncube over the weekend while President Emmerson Mnangagwa has also granted the officials a State assisted funeral.
The River Valley Group of Companies called for warm prayers for the bereaved families so that they can quickly recover from the shock and depression.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, loved ones, the Club and the entire football community during this very difficult time. May their Souls Rest in eternal Peace,” it said.
The Highlanders family will gather at the Bourberfields stadium on Monday 27 July 2026 for a combined send off of the fallen executives.
A few months ago River Valley also showed their humanitarian side when the nation lost seven school pupils in an inferno in Senga, Gweru.
