Harare. (New Ziana) – A 25 year old woman from Triangle in Chiredzi who drowned her two minor daughters by throwing them into a flooded canal has appeared in court facing two counts of murder.

Blessing Chiromonye was not formally charged when she appeared before a Chiredzi magistrate and is expected back in court on Thursday next week, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has said.

According to the NPAZ, allegations are that on Wednesday last week, Chiromonye threw her two daughters aged four and eight into the main water canal, Triangle, resulting in their drowning and death.

She tried to commit suicide by jumping into the canal after her daughters but was thrown out by the raging water. She then went home and changed her wet clothes and tried to flee.

The driver of the commuter omnibus she that she boarded was tipped about what had transpired and drove Chiromonye back.

A police report was made, leading to her arrest.
