Gweru, (New Ziana)- Midlands State University (MSU) Vice –Chancellor, Professor Victor Muzvidziwa kicked off the university’s Covid-19 vaccination on Monday by becoming the first staff member to get the jab.

He was vaccinated at the university’s main campus in Gweru with China’s Sinopharm vaccine, one of three vaccines available in the country.

This opened the door for the vaccination of the university’s entire academic and non-academic staff across the country. MSU runs many campuses throughout the country.

Speaking after being inoculated, Professor Muzvidziwa said: “The roll-out is a timely intervention that will help in the fight against the global pandemic, and (is the) safest way for institutions of higher learning to fulfill their primary mantra.”

“The vaccination programme offers a great chance for winning the fight (against Covid-19) especially if we all come together and embrace vaccination,” he added.

“For educational institutions, the rollout will ensure that the key functions of teaching and learning will take place and by coming out and taking responsibility as individuals and institutions, we can move ahead with greater confidence under the new normal,” Prof Muzvidziwa said.

University Registrar Tinashe Zishiri and Executive Dean of Student, F Chakauya took the second and third jabs respectively.
