MUTARE-The Mutare City’s main swimming pool commonly referred to as ‘Main Bath’ has reopened for this summer season following upgrades to infrastructure and human capital at the popular recreational facility.
Mutare City spokesperson Spren Mutiwi confirmed the development and urged the public to exercise extreme caution while swimming at the facility.
“The city main bath has resumed its activities with effect from Tuesday 25 October. The facility has been repainted, though the painting process has not yet been completed. We also would like to notify the public that the council has also under gone a recruitment process for life savers and the facility now has a total of four personnel in place to ensure safety and security. Recruitment is a process that was recently completed and we have two more life savers who are coming on board to reinforce the safety measures of our swimmers,” he said.
The main bath had recently closed down due to the Covid 19 pandemic induced restrictions and as a result the council took advantage of the break to upgrade the facility and recruit life savers following a spurt of drowning incidents at the facility.
Swimming activities resumed last Tuesday with entry charges pegged at US $2 for adults and US$1 for children or the equivalent in local currency.
The pool will be running two sessions of three hours each per day from Tuesday to Sunday with Mondays reserved for maintenance only.
Mutiwi said focus was now shifting towards the development and renovation of the city’s second swimming facility in Sakubva township with hope that construction assessments will be completed before year end.
‘Our focus now shifts to Sakubva swimming pool to carry out the renovation and bring the facility back to use. We are currently assessing the extent of works to be carried out and the good thing is that the project is budgeted for in 2022 and once the assessment is completed it will gives us the scope and the timeliness of the project,’ he added.
