Mutoko RDC procures refuse truck

Share

MARONDERA- The Mutoko Rural District Council recently bought its first refuse
truck in a development which will result in a cleaner environment in the rapidly
expanding town.
All along, the local authority had been using a tractor to collect refuse in the town.
The aquiring of the refuse truck is expected to improve service delivery in refuse
collection and management for both residents and the business community.
Mutoko RDC chief executive officer Biriat Tasarira said: “As council, we are glad that
we managed to mobilise our own resources towards this asset. We will now be in a
position to regularly collect refuse in all residential areas in our town.
“Previously, we only collected refuse at business centres and that resulted in most
areas not being clean and residents were at risk of contracting diseases such as
cholera and typhoid,” Tasarira said.
Mashonaland East Environmental Management Agency (EMA) provincial manager
Juliet Mavu applauded Mutoko RDC for this feat, saying the purchasing of the new
refuse compactor is an achievement in waste management sector in the district.
She said: “We are happy with the move made by Mutoko RDC. They purchased this
refuse truck and it will go a long way in boosting the management of waste in the
district.”
The province now boasts of five local authorities with refuse compactors and they
are the Municipality of Marondera, Chikomba RDC, Murehwa RDC, Manyame RDC
AND the Mutoko RDC.
