Headlands (New Ziana)-Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa has handed over three tractors to a group of Headlands farmers.
She sourced the tractors from Agribank for members of the Headlands Small Scale Farmers Association.
The association has over 3 000 members, who hailed the tractors as a timely boost for their farming preparations for the forthcoming season.
Most small scale farmers countrywide lost their entire cattle draught power to the January disease which affected vast areas, and as a result struggled with farming preparations.
But with consistent support from government in the form of mechanisation and input supplies, farming countrywide is rebounding strongly.
The association’s members, mainly drawn from the Makoni District, said the tractors – which came equipped with implements – would speed up their land preparations for the summer cropping season, which starts this month.
They hailed Mutsvangwa for the donation, which is part of the broader government agenda of the mechanisation of the agriculture industry.
Government has targeted to grow the industry, which is the mainstay of the economy, into an US$8 billion sector in a few years’ time.
