Ngarivhume wins judge recusal case

Harare (New Ziana) – Transform Zimbabwe leader, Jacob Ngarivhume on Tuesday won his case at the High Court to have Justice Benjamin Chikowero recuse himself from presiding over a case in which he is applying for bail, pending appeal.

He is appealing against both conviction and sentence for inciting public violence arising from Twitter messages in 2020 where he called for people to join in illegal public demonstrations.

Justice Chikowore dismissed the bail application, citing slim prospects for success for his appeal against conviction and sentence in the incitement case.

But High Court Judge, Pisirai Kwenda told the court on Tuesday Justice Chikowore had agreed to recuse himself from hearing the bail application and set the matter for November 24.

The application will now be heard by Justice Kwenda and Justice Maxwell Chikumbutso.
