Harare, (New Ziana) – A Nigerian couple has been arrested for entering and living in the country illegally for years.

Success Ibekwe, 41, and Destiny Ibekwe, 43, came to Zimbabwe in 2019 and settled in Gweru where they operated a fast food business, evading authorities.

They were convicted of violating the Immigration Act, and fined US$200 or two months in jail and deportation to their country.

In a separate case, Asror Saidov, a 53-year-old Tajik national, faced similar charges. Saidov entered Zimbabwe through Robert Mugabe International Airport on January 19, 2024, holding a 30-day holiday visa.

After applying for a 30-day extension, which was granted, he overstayed his visa, which expired on March 18, 2024. Following his arrest, Saidov was also fined USD 200 or sentenced to two months in prison, awaiting deportation back to Tajikistan.
