Harare, (New Ziana) – The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) on Wednesday announced the retirement, on medical grounds, of Munyaradzi Charangwa as chief executive officer, and his interim replacement by his deputy, Aina Dube-Kaguru, with immediate effect.
In a statement, the NRZ board of directors said they will soon initiate the process of appointing a substantive chief executive officer.
“The Board of Directors of the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) wishes to inform the nation and valued stakeholders that Munyaradzi Stephen Charangwa has stepped down from his role as Chief Executive Officer on medical grounds, effective immediately.
“To ensure a seamless transition and absolute operational continuity, the NRZ Board has appointed the Deputy CEO, Ainah Dube-Kaguru, as Acting Chief Executive Officer effective immediately. Dube-Kaguru will steer the executive team while the Board initiates the process to appoint a substantive Chief Executive Officer,” it said.
It further advised that the NRZ board chairperson, Misheck Sibanda, alongside the shareholder representative, Mutapa Investment Fund (MIF), reassure all management, staff, clients, and partners that the strategic direction of the entity remains firm and entirely uninterrupted.
“The revitalisation of rail operations, modernisation of key infrastructure, and the execution of approved turnaround plans continue with the unshakable mandate and backing of the shareholder,” it added.
The board expressed sincere gratitude to Charangwa, who has not been well for some time, for his service to the organization, particularly his contribution to the framework of the strategic turnaround plan, and wished him a full and speedy recovery.
