Nyanga man tortures wife to death after infidelity confession

Harare, (New Ziana) – A 41-year-old man from Nyanga has appeared in court charged with murder following the alleged torturing of his wife to death after she confessed to infidelity.

Farai Michael Madotsa from Chihobvu village under chief Saunyama appeared at the Nyanga Magistrates Courts charged with the murder of Penelope Yeukai Nyabanga after she allegedly confessed to conducting a secret sexual affair with a man who had been snooping around the homestead on the fateful night.

According to the National Prosecution Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the incident occurred on May 28 when Madotsa and Nyabanga had retired for the night.

In a statement, the NPAZ said Madotsa was then alerted by a cell phone ringing outside their bedroom and when he went out to investigate, he saw an unknown male person who ran away upon seeing him.

This led Madotsa to suspect that his wife was having an affair and when he confronted her, she initially denied the allegations and he slapped her thrice in the face.

Nyabanga confessed and showed him where she used to have sexual relations with her boyfriend. She also led him to a broken-down motor vehicle where she showed him unused condoms.

Madotsa picked up a log and ordered Nyabanga to lie on the ground facing down. He assaulted her several times on the body and went on to pour water on her at intervals.

He allegedly assaulted her for an hour before he took her inside the bedroom and placed her on the cold floor where she eventually died.

Madotsa was remanded in custody and is expected to apply to the High Court for bail.

In a separate incident from the scenic Eastern Highlands area, Amos Sachikonye (26) of Katsatse village 2 also under chief Saunyama appeared at the Nyanga magistrates court charged with the murder of his 74-year-old father.

According to the NPAZ, a misunderstanding between Amos and his nephew degenerated into violence prompting his father, Stuart Sachikonye to intervene.

The younger Sachikonye picked up a shovel and struck his father twice on the head with the back of the shovel and when his mother, Aleta Sachikonye tried to restrain him, he threatened to assault her too.

The mother ran away and he pursued her but when he could not catch her, he abandoned the chase and returned home. On his way home, he met the now-deceased who tried to run away but slipped and fell.

Sachikonye again struck his father three times with the back of the shovel inflicting a deep laceration just above the right ear. The deceased died on the spot as a result of the injuries.

He was remanded in custody.
