Police hunt for 10 armed robbers

Harare (New Ziana)-Police on Friday launched a manhunt for 10 armed robbers accused of robbing eight motorists along the Beitbridge–Dute road on Tuesday night.

In a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said on one of the incidents, a motorists found the road barricaded with large stones.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police has launched a manhunt for ten unknown armed robbers who attacked eight motorists on 27 October 2020 along Beitbridge–Dute road around 2200 hours.

“A motorist driving a Nissan Caravan with one passenger on board found the road blocked with large stones at the 10km peg along the said road and he got out to remove the stones.

“Ten men wearing face masks and balaclavas, armed with pistols and rifles attacked the, by firing at their vehicles. They stole cell- phones, cash and clothes from the duo,” said police.

The motorist fled and sought help from other motorists.

Some of the motorists who arrived at the same spot to save the motorist who had fled from the robbers shone their lights on the robbers who then sneaked behind and opened fire.

Police said the good Samaritans then fled and left their vehicles, two Toyota Granvias, two Nissan Caravans and an Isuzu Como kombi.

The robbers then ransacked the vehicles left behind stealing groceries and cash among other items.

“Police are appealing to anyone who may have information pertaining to these dangerous robbers to report at any nearest police station or national complaints desk,” said Nyathi.
