Chipinge (New Ziana) – Police in Chipinge have arrested four men allegedly found in possession of 20 bags of mbanje weighing 90 kilogrammes each, in what could be one of the biggest hauls of the illicit drug.

The four were intercepted while traveling from Magwaza area to Rimbi business centre en route to Harare.

Manicaland province deputy police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said the suspects were Austin Runozivei(38) of St Mary`s Chitungwiza, Tatenda Langton(24) Overspill Epworth, David Bhero(52) of Epworth and Itai Langton(22), and were arrested after a tip off.

They were transporting the drug in a kombi.

“Police in Chisumbanje at around 6 pm received a tip off that the four were transporting dagga using a Caravan (kombi) registration number 3355. The officer in charge together with his team laid an ambush and intercepted the vehicle,”said Chinyoka.

He said the suspects were taken to Chisumbanje police station where the mbanje was weighed.
