Harare (New Ziana) – Police on Wednesday warned syndicates of armed robbers that were on the prowl that law enforcement agents were on the hunt for them.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said operations were underway to bring all armed robbers to account.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns robbery syndicates that operations to account for all suspects are in full swing and will ensure that all criminal groups involved in robbery cases are brought to justice,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nyathi said police had arrested two-armed robbery suspects after a shoot-out in Harare’s Riddleridge area.

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of armed robbery suspects Brighton Mangondo (35) and Gerald Ritizira (38) after a shoot-out incident in which another suspect Tanaka Living Nyaude Madzima (29) died. The incident occurred in Riddleridge on 6 November 2023.

The suspects were initially part of an armed robbery gang comprising Tinotenda Zhuwawo Dzvairo (27), Tinashe Ray Chirombo (31), Trymore Derere Guta (30), Herbert Claytown Nyamangondo (39), Mugove Chimuti (36) who is now deceased and Ishmael Mutungira, who is also late.

All the suspects are linked to robberies which took place in Darwendale, Beatrice and Chinhoyi in June and July this year.

A shot gun, rounds of ammunition and a pistol were recovered during the arrest.
Madzima was injured in an exchange of fire with police, and died on admission to hospital in Harare.
