Preps for Zanu PF conference on course

Marondera, (Chaminuka-New Ziana) –The Zanu PF Mashonaland East province has moved a gear up in preparing for the party’s Annual National People’s conference slated for Goromonzi in December this year to ensure it is a huge success.

Of the 150 cattle expected to be mobilised for the event, 27 have since been made available whilst more pledges are still filtering in.

At least 50 goats and 20 tons of maize have also been mobilised.

This emerged during a fundraising meeting held in Marondera on Monday.

Provincial development coordinator, Tavabarira Kutamahufa told the meeting that apart from 150 cattle that will provide relish for the delegates, the province also requires 20 tons of maize, 60 000 bottles of beverages, 42 000 bottles of mineral water, vegetables, chickens, groceries, fruits among others.

“As the host province, let us make sure that we mobilise the bulk of the requirements and the rest of the country will complement what we will have mobilised,” he said.

Kutamahufa challenged the district development coordinators to identify potential sponsors in the localities before approaching the party leadership, which would then collect the donated items.

To avoid leakages, it came out at the meeting that the only authentic letter that would be sent to prospective donors was the one bearing Zanu PF letterhead signed by Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Appolonia Munzverengwi, provincial party chairperson Joel Biggie Matiza and the provincial secretary for finance who was also the chairman of the fundraising committee, Member of Parliament for Seke Munyaradzi Kashambe.

Kashambe said potential donors included local farmers, miners and the business community.

“As a province, we have farmers who are doing well and companies that are performing well despite the economic challenges that we are currently facing as a nation. We expect them to contribute while we get complementation from our principals,” he said.

Recently the provincial party leadership toured the conference venue and expressed satisfaction over the work done so far.

Those who toured the venue included the provincial executive members, central committee and politburo members.

The conference, to be held at Goromonzi High School, had initially been penciled for Seke district but was moved after the former failed to provide a venue that could accommodate the expected delegates.
