HARARE— President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed a new seven-member Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) Board to oversee the regulation of broadcasting services in the country.
The new board will serve for a four-year term and comprises Tendai Jennifer Mandizvidza, Godfrey Mutobaya, Magna Mudyiwa, Caroline Makoni, Cloud Nyamundanda, Vengai Rushwaya, also known as Chief Serima, and Prime Kufakunesu.
The appointments were made in terms of Section 4(2) of the Broadcasting Services Act (Chapter 12:06), as amended.
In a statement on Friday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Nick Mangwana confirmed the appointments, saying they had been made by the President in accordance with the provisions of the Act.
“His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has, in terms of Section 4 (2) of the Broadcasting Services Act (Chapter 12:06), as amended, appointed the following persons as members of the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe Board, for a period of four (4) years,” said Mr Mangwana.
The BAZ is mandated to regulate broadcasting services in Zimbabwe, including overseeing the licensing of broadcasters.
The appointment of the new board comes as the broadcasting sector continues to evolve amid technological developments and increasing demand for diverse broadcasting services.
The authority plays a key role in ensuring that broadcasting services operate within the country’s legal and regulatory framework.
