President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Arrival At Kamuzu International Airport

Harare-New Ziana-President Emmerson Mnangagwa arrived in Malawi’s capital Lilongwe this afternoon to a rapturous welcome from Malawians and hundreds of Zimbabwean nationals resident in that country. He was received at the Kamuzu International Airport by his Malawian counterpart Lazarus Chakwera and his wife Monica, who invited him for a three-day state visit.
It was a hive of activity at the airport as hundreds of people patiently waiting for the arrival of President Mnangangwa. For the Zimbabwe delegation it was a feeling of being home away from home as they were entertained by several traditional and Nyau dancers always colourfully dressed, which are common and popular in Zimbabwe.
As with a State visit, President Mnangagwa inspected a Guard of Honour mounted for him on the red carpet before greeting and appreciating members of the public who had come to welcome him. This included Zimbabweans living in Malawi who had banners that read “Zimbabweans in Malawi Welcome You to the Warm Heart of Africa”. It was a special occasion for one lucky boy who got the chance to shake hands with both Presidents and a special hug.
With him of the State Visit are the Ministers of Finance and Economic Development, Professor Mthuli Ncube and Industry and Commerce, Sekai Nzenza, while the Implementation and Monitoring Minister in the President’s Office, Jorum Gumbo was already in Malawi representing Foreign Affairs.
The two leaders are expected to conclude all outstanding Memoranda of Understanding between the two countries to pave way for better economic and political cooperation by the two friendly nations who were once joined during the days of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. The two countries’ foreign ministers have been busy laying out the foundation of what Presidents Mnangagwa and Chakwera will sign during the visit.
On Tuesday, a joint communique issued after the meeting said that several MoUs on cooperation in local government, police matters, gender, forestry management, immigration, energy and information and broadcasting were concluded.
Among the MoUs to be signed will be one between New Ziana and Malawi News Agency and ZBC and Malawi Broadcasting Corporation which is expected to pave the way to improve the exchange of news as well as training of staff from the two countries.
