Harare (New Ziana) –President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday urged the Zanu PF leadership to continuously nurture adherence to the correct line of the party by providing requisite guidance and direction.

President Mnangagwa, who is also the Zanu PF first secretary, said this while addressing the 376th ordinary session of the party’s highest decision-making body, the politburo at its headquarters.

The ongoing renewal and mobilisation of new members, he said the party should be supported to ensure that the grassroots structures are properly arranged.

“This 376th Ordinary Session of the Politburo is convened today to deliberate on pertinent matters of our party, government and people, he said.

“This will include detailed reports on the progress we have made on the ongoing Party Restructuring and Modernisation Exercise, specifically in light of the Provincial Coordinating Committee meetings which were held across our country and forthcoming National Cell/Village Day,” he said.

President Mnangagwa said the party’s robust mobilisation strategies, people-centred programs and projects, including the ongoing restructuring exercise, should see more new members joining.

He challenged the Commissariat department to sharpen its approaches alongside other wings of the party towards realising mobilisation targets, adding more cell structures should be realised in both urban and rural areas.

“This goal must also be complemented by the electronic registration of all our Party cadres. As we undertake all Party activities, let us remain aware that ZANU PF is a Party that belongs to the people. We are a mass revolutionary Party. The Party is supreme.

“We are a people’s Party, a revolutionary mass Party by the people and for the people. Hatidi mazvake- mazvake (we do not want chaos). Differences in opinion and approaches among a few must never derail the course of our Party’s overall objective to realise economic growth, prosperity for all and a higher quality of life for our people.”

President Mnangagwa urged members to promote and inculcate collective and responsible leadership, across the cell/village, branch, ward, district and provincial level, right up to the national level.

Turning to the 44th Southern African Development Community Summit of Heads of State and Government scheduled for Harare in August, President Mnangagwa said citizens should continue to demonstrate the national character of a hospitable, united and peace-loving people.

He said this would go a long way to enhance the ongoing national branding and image-building initiatives.

President Mnangagwa castigated the neo-imperial machinations of the country’s detractors.

“It is a shame and disgrace that foreign funding for humanitarian support and related programs is being used to clandestinely advance practices that are alien to our culture, values and norms.

“Zimbabwe will never accept any foreign support that has conditionalities that seek to defile and denigrate our national character, values and beliefs. As ZANU PF and African people, we reject the imposition of alien identities as well as cultures. We continue to hold sacred our African morals, values and traditions. These shape our identity, as well as dignity as a sovereign and independent people,” he said.

He revealed that the country was making important inroads on the engagement and re-engagement thrust, adding the Korea-Africa inaugural Summit held under the theme ‘The Future We Make Together: Shared Growth, Sustainability, and Solidarity’ presented an opportunity for the nation to forge strategic partnerships towards improving the quality of life for the people.

“In addition, at the just-ended 27th St Petersburg International Economic Forum, I was pleased to hold fruitful bilateral discussions, with my Dear Brother, His Excellency, President Vladimir Putin, of the Russian Federation.

“We look forward to deepening and consolidating our cooperation with the Russian Federation in areas such as mining, agriculture, science and technology, space science as well as in the education and health spheres,” he said.

President Mnangagwa took the opportunity to express condolences to President Lazarus Chakwera and the people and government of the Republic of Malawi, following the passing on of that country’s Vice President, Saulos Chilima and nine other people in a plane crash on Monday.
