Harare (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday fired State Security Minister Owen Ncube for “conduct inappropriate for a minister of government.”
In a statement, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Misheck Sibanda said the dismissal took immediate effect.
“His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde E.D. Mnangagwa, has in terms of Section 340, Subsection(1), paragraph(f) , as read with Section 104, Subsection (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe removed Owen Ncube from Office of Cabinet Minister and Minister of Government with immediate effect for conduct inappropriate for a minister of government,” he said.
Ncube becomes the latest cabinet minister to be fired by President Mnangagwa, who has staunchly preached virtues of clean government since coming into office in 2017.
Others dismissed include former Health and Child Care Minister Obediah Moyo who was fired after being linked to corrupt drug procurement, former Tourism and Hospitality Minister Prisca Mupfumira who was also shown the door after accusations of corruption in a former ministerial portfolio, and former Energy and Power Development Minister Fortune Chasi.
Energy Mutodi, a former deputy minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, is also among top government officials who have fallen victim to the President’s sword.
No details of Ncube’s ‘inappropriate’ conduct were given.
