HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has honoured retired Chief Justice Luke Malaba with an agricultural mechanisation package in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Zimbabwe’s judiciary and public service.
The presentation ceremony was held at State House in Harare on Friday, where President Mnangagwa personally handed over the equipment to the former Chief Justice.
The mechanisation package comprises a tractor, a Nissan UD truck, a boom sprayer and a planter, which are expected to enhance agricultural productivity at Malaba’s farming enterprise.
The gesture forms part of the Government’s ongoing programme to recognise and appreciate distinguished Zimbabweans who have dedicated their lives to serving the nation in various capacities.
Chief Justice Malaba retired earlier this year after a long judicial career that saw him rise through the ranks to become the head of Zimbabwe’s judiciary. During his tenure, he presided over key legal and constitutional matters and played a significant role in shaping the country’s justice delivery system.
Speaking after receiving the equipment, Malaba expressed gratitude to President Mnangagwa and the Government for the recognition.”I am deeply humbled by this gesture from His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Government of Zimbabwe. This recognition is not only for me as an individual, but for all those who worked with me throughout my years in the judiciary. I remain committed to contributing to national development, and this mechanisation package will go a long way in supporting my agricultural activities,” said Malaba.
He said the recognition reflected the country’s appreciation for dedicated public service and reaffirmed his commitment to contributing to Zimbabwe’s development through agriculture.
The mechanisation package is also expected to contribute to the Government’s drive to increase agricultural production and empower beneficiaries to participate meaningfully in the country’s rural industrialisation and food security programmes.
Officials who attended the ceremony said the recognition underscored the importance of rewarding excellence, patriotism and commitment to national development.
The presentation comes as Government continues to promote agricultural mechanisation as a key pillar of Zimbabwe’s economic transformation agenda, with increased support being extended to farmers across the country.
The honour bestowed on the retired Chief Justice reflects the enduring value the nation places on service, leadership and contributions made towards strengthening national institutions.
