President Mnangagwa invited to Madagascan leader’s inauguration

Harare (New Ziana) -President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday received an invitation to attend the inauguration of his Madagascan counterpart, Andry Rajoelina, who was recently re-elected for a third term.

President Rajoelina was declared the winner of the November 16 election after garnering 58.9 percent of the votes to beat Siteny Randrianasoloniaiko, who got 14.4 percent in results announced on Saturday.

Naina Andriantsitohaina, mayor of the Madagascan capital Antananarivo, delivered the invitation to President Mnangagwa at State House.

Addressing the media soon after delivering the message, Andriantsitohaina said the inauguration would take place in the coming few weeks.

“We have been sent by the elected President Andrey Rajoelina who has been elected in Madagascar. In the coming few weeks there will be the inauguration ceremony so we have been sent as special envoy to see the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe to invite him to come to that ceremony and to strengthen the link between the two countries,” he said, while flanked by Zanu PF secretary for information and publicity Christopher Mutsvangwa.

Mutsvangwa said President Mnangagwa has accepted the invitation and will be attending the inauguration ceremony.

“Yes, the President has indicated that he will be attending the investiture of his brother, President Rajoelina of Madagascar,” he said.

He said as Southern African Development Community countries, they will be having the special occasion together as they celebrate their elections, democracy and regional solidarity.
