Harare (New Ziana)-President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday said the late National Hero and former Zanu PF National Youth League secretary, Absalom Sikhosana will be remembered for moulding the political careers of many young people.

Sikhosana (70), succumbed to a heart ailment at a Bulawayo Hospital at the weekend, and was declared a National Hero.

In a condolence message, President Mnangagwa said the late Sikhosana remained a true supporter of Zanu PF until his last day.

“Genial but firm, respectful and soft- spoken but unwavering, the late Absalom Sikhosana was always faithful to the party line, and would be relied upon to undertake onerous chores for the party in different provinces of our country,” President Mnangagwa said.

“In all this and throughout his political career, the late departed exemplified unity and cohesion in the party, a demeanour which made him approachable and acceptable across organs and structures of our party.
“We will miss him sorely,” he said.

The late Sikhosana, said President Mnangagwa, was always dedicated to the freedom and the service of his people.

“Cde Sikhosana distinguished himself as a long-time leader of our youth league, in the process moulding several youths, many of whom matured politically, becoming dependable leaders in different sectors of our society,” he said.

The President said the Zanu PF’s decision to confer the late Sikhosana , National Hero status was the least the party could do in his honour.

“Our party’s decision to confer National Hero status on Sikhosana is the least we could do by way of honouring this stalwart of the struggle, and ever hardworking cadre of our Party,” said President Mnangagwa.

He added: “On behalf of the Party, Zanu PF, the Politburo, my family and on my own behalf, I wish to convey my heartfelt condolences to the Sikhosana family, especially to Mrs Sikhosana and the children. As they grieve over their saddest loss, may they be comforted and consoled by Sikhosana’s outstanding role in the struggle for our national independence and in his distinguished leadership in both the Youth League, and lately of the whole of Bulawayo province of which he was its interim Chairman”.
