Harare (New Ziana) – Local firms continue responding in a big way to Zimbabwe’s Covid-19 national response, the latest being a donation which was handed over to President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday of 100 tonnes of mealie meal to be distributed to vulnerable families.
Zimbabwe has been under various stages of Covid-19 lockdown since March, a situation which has affected most household incomes thereby necessitating the roll out of food relief programmes to reduce the impact of the pandemic.
On top of government initiatives which include cash transfers to vulnerable families, local companies have also rallied to donate food stuffs.
President Mnangagwa received the consignment from Better Brands Jewellery at State House.
He commended the company for its kind gesture.
“We are grateful for your donation, if our country can have more young people of your calibre we are assured that our nation’s future is in good hands,” he said.
“The donation will help reduce the burden.”
Better Brands chief executive officer Scott Sakupwanya said his company felt obliged to support vulnerable members of society.
“The bags of mealie will be distributed by the President to those in need, where there is need,” he said.
