Harare (New Ziana) – President Mnangagwa on Tuesday said Zimbabweans should direct their energy more towards maintenance of peace and unity, in memory of the late Vice President Simon Muzenda.

Vice President Muzenda died in 2003.

In a statement to commemorate the 18th anniversary of VP Muzenda’s death, President Mnangagwa said: “Our nation this week, commemorates the 18th anniversary of the death of veteran fighter and nationalist, our country’s first Deputy Prime Minister and late Vice President, Dr Simon Vengai Muzenda.

“Revered as the ‘Soul of the Nation’, this characterisation of our liberation stalwart, should serve as a constant reminder to all of us to continue focusing our energies and efforts towards the maintenance of everlasting unity and peace in our country.”

He said VP Muzenda was a respected politician.

“Zimbabweans should take a leaf from the life of this humble patriot who played numerous roles, before and after our independence in 1980, that included nation building, socio- economic transformation programs, and international relations,” he said.

President Mnangagwa said youths should embrace the values VP Muzenda espoused.“… so that they too can play leading roles in our communities as change agents for the attainment of our Vision 2030 of an empowered, knowledge and technology- driven upper middle income society,” he said.
