Harare (New Ziana) – President Emerson Mnangagwa on Monday said the late Zanu PF spokesperson, Simon Khaya Moyo led an exemplary life and served his country with honour and courage even when he was ill.
Khaya Moyo, who served in various capacities in government, died on Sunday aged 76 in a hospital in Bulawayo where he was receiving treatment for cancer.
President Mnangagwa said Khaya Moyo’s dedication to national duty was unparalleled.
“Even as his health failed, he always gave his utmost to his party, government and to our nation,” he said.
“Without doubt, our nation will sorely miss his wise counsel, grounding with the grassroots and his characteristic energy and ebullience in all he did.”
President Mnangagwa said Khaya Moyo, who has since been declared a national hero, was an avid promoter of peace and unity among the people.
“A stalwart of the Zimbabwe liberation struggle and a long-time loyal personal aide to our late Vice President and Father Zimbabwe, comrade Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo, comrade S.K, as we all affectionately called him, distinguished himself as a true patriot, freedom fighter and resourceful, versatile cadre beyond the onerous and risky chores of the struggle which he embraced with selfless courage,” he said.
“Comrade Moyo put all his skills, intellect and Pan-African outlook to the national cause both before and after our independence. It was this rare gift of high intellect which enabled his various deployments and service in numerous capacities including in the civil service, as a Minister of government in charge of key portfolios such as Transport, information and as our ambassador to the sister Republic of South Africa.”
