Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched investigations into a chilling case of murder and armed robbery that claimed the life of prominent businessman, Joseph Mutangadura (67) on Sunday night.
He was murdered at his farm along Dustain Road in Ruwa, about 35 kilometers southeast of the capital, popularly known as Mutangadura Hideout, around 11PM.
According to ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, seven unidentified suspects, armed with pistols, claw bars, and hammers, stormed the farm while concealing their faces with balaclavas.
The gang overpowered a security guard on duty, tying his hands with shoelaces before forcing him to lead them to the main house, where they broke in by smashing the door with metal bars.
Inside the house, the criminals ordered the security guard and the businessman’s son to lie down in the dining room before proceeding to the bedroom, where Mutangadura was asleep with his wife.
In a brutal confrontation, the suspects shot the businessman in the stomach before ransacking the property and leaving both Mutangadura and his wife unconscious.
The businessman and his wife later rushed to Eden Hospital in Windsor, Ruwa where tragically, he was pronounced dead on arrival while the wife was referred to Parirenyatwa General Hospital, where she was treated and discharged.
Comm Nyathi said police are working tirelessly to track down the suspects, adding that the total value of stolen property is yet to be ascertained.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities that could assist police in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
