CHEGUTU – MASHONALAND West Province proved to be the best power horse in
terms of soccer, from primary school level to premier championship.

First to raise the provincial flag at full mast was Chiedza Primary School, which lifted
the under-13 national school games. Its sister school, Vimbai High was not outdone,
as it also lifted the under-17 soccer national championship, while St Eric’s won the
under-20 national championships. All these schools are in Norton, thanks to the
    MWOS FC junior policy.

MWOS is in Northern region division one league, the batters have junior football
teams where they groom young players from grassroots level.

In a similar note, Chegutu Pirates won the Northern Region Division 1 championship
and got promoted into premier soccer league. The region comprises teams from
Harare and Mashonaland West provinces respectively. Pirates will rub shoulders
with teams like CAPS United, Highlanders, Bulawayo Chiefs and others during next
    season.

However, the Chegutu-based team needs to pull up its socks as early as possible.
Pirates need to run around scouting for players since most of their players are
getting older. It is obvious that Pirates need to have junior clubs from which to groom
    players.

Sodbury Scorpions FC is grooming players from its junior clubs. They usually use
their juniors as curtain raisers whenever they play. At times they travel with their
    juniors for their away games.

The province also boasts and brags itself as Mhondoro-based Ngezi Platinum FC
won the league championship. Madamburo will represent the country in the
    Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The province has won the golden boot in the form of Takunda Benhura, who netted
more goals than others in the premiership league. Even the accolades of the
premiership Coach of the Year might be clinched by Takesure Chiragwi, in Northern
Region Division One. Pirates’ gaffer, Emmanuel Day Gutu Ras Day, clinched the top
accolade of being the best coach in the soccer region.

Another icing on cake is that Pirates’ goalkeeper, George Chirara, conceded the
least goals in the Northern Region Division One soccer league.

Meanwhile, Pirates beat Bikita minerals in a clash of champions of champions
extravaganza at Pfupajena Stadium over the weekend. The Zaire boys got their goal
through Edson Tsoro. Pirates will travel to the Lithium Stadium for a reverse fixture
    on Unity Day, December 22.

However, Madamburo fell 2-0 at home to Dynamos in the Chibuku Super Cup played
    on Sunday.

Hats off Mashonaland Best, hats off Mashonaland West for not being the worst but
the best of all in football circles nationwide.
