Harare, (New Ziana) –  Population Services Zimbabwe (PSZ) on Wednesday launched a new flagship medical clinic at the Eastgate Mall in the Harare Central Business District (CBD), expanding access to quality, affordable and people-centred healthcare for thousands of people who live, work, study and conduct business in the capital.
The new facility is the seventh PSZ clinic in Zimbabwe and marks a significant expansion of the organisation’s healthcare footprint, strengthening its capacity to provide essential services to communities across the country.
It was established with support from the embassy of Sweden, highlighting the role of partnerships between the government, development partners and healthcare institutions in bringing essential health services closer to communities.
Officially launching the facility, Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care Sleiman Kwidini said the new clinic would contribute significantly to Zimbabwean efforts to improve access to quality healthcare and accelerate progress towards universal health coverage.
“The clinic’s strategic location in the heart of Harare’s CBD will make healthcare more accessible and convenient for workers, entrepreneurs, residents, visitors, students and families who may otherwise struggle to find time for routine consultations, screening and other essential healthcare services,” he said.
He said although the PSZ had a longstanding reputation for providing women’s health as well as sexual and reproductive healthcare services, the new Harare CBD clinic is designed to offer integrated healthcare to women, men, young people and families.
The facility will provide a range of services, including primary healthcare consultations, preventive healthcare packages, diagnostic services, menstrual support, menopause management, fertility interventions, cervical cancer screening and other essential health services.
PSZ country director Pester Siraha said the opening of the clinic represents more than an investment in a new healthcare facility, describing it as an expansion of access to services for people from different backgrounds and age groups.
“This clinic is for everyone. It is for the young professional seeking a medical consultation before work, the father managing hypertension or diabetes, the entrepreneur requiring routine health screening, the student seeking confidential healthcare services and families looking for trusted and accessible primary healthcare,” she said.
Siraha said PSZ would continue complementing government healthcare efforts by expanding access to services, promoting innovation, strengthening community-based healthcare and reaching populations requiring additional support.
Swedish ambassador to Zimbabwe, Per Lindgarde, said the launch demonstrated the importance of sustained development cooperation aimed at strengthening national health systems and creating lasting impact.
“Resilient health systems depend on collaboration between Government, development partners and health institutions, with each bringing complementary strengths to the goal of expanding access to quality healthcare,” he said.
With the addition of the Harare CBD clinic, PSZ’s national service delivery network now enables the organisation to serve more than half a million clients annually.
In addition to its seven static clinics, PSZ operates eight mobile outreach teams, supports 225 public health facilities through public-sector strengthening programs and runs a social marketing network comprising more than 200 outlets across all provinces of Zimbabwe.
The new clinic is expected to provide a convenient healthcare option for people working and living in the Harare CBD while contributing to broader efforts to improve access to essential health services in the country.
