Redcliff (The Times-New Ziana) – Redcliff Municipality has revived its brick moulding project which is set to boost council’s coffers as there was high demand for bricks owing to massive housing development schemes being undertaken in the mining town.

In an interview, Redcliff Town Clerk, Gilson Chakauya said the local authority, through its business development portfolio, resolved to resuscitate the brick moulding project in Rutendo high density suburb.
The project was stopped in December 2018 due to high inflation, which saw prices of raw materials sky-rocketing.

“On November 1 this year, we will resume the brick moulding project we suspended in December last year. We have retained all the workers with the hope of expanding our operations.”

Chakauya said they will expand the operations of the project by manufacturing other products like cast columns and durawall panels.

He is upbeat that the project will generate good revenue since the town has embarked on a number of residential schemes, which are on different stages of development.

“Demand for standard bricks is high as many people have started constructing their houses in both low and high density suburbs.”

Redcliff, which has a population of about 38 000, is currently focusing on housing development in partnership with private property developers.

Redcliff has a total of 6 500 hectares of land and only 50 percent has been developed for urban expansion.

The municipality, through the Public Private Partnership programme, is servicing 3 575 high density stands in Grasslands Estate and 74 low density stands in Rennin Estate.
