GWERU – Five daring robbers pounced on a three-member family and had the audacity to cook
meat, eat it and then rob them of cash and other property worth US$2 500.
The robbers who were armed with a machete and a knife also attempted to rape the 52-year-old
female household head.

Police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the incident occurred in Northlea on October
30 at about 2am.

“A family comprising a 52-year-old woman, her son and a domestic female worker was asleep when
they were awakened by a strange noise coming from her kitchen.

“As she tried to investigate on what was happening, she was intercepted by five men who had
entered the house through the kitchen window after cutting the window frame,” Insp Mahoko said.
He said the robbers assaulted the woman on the head with a machete and demanded cash.

They took US$300 from her and her maid, and went on to ransack the house and stole two cell
phones and groceries.

“During the process, one of the robbers attempted to rape the complainant. The robbers took about
three hours in the house and even got the time to cook and eat beef which they had taken from the
complainant’s refrigerator,” Insp Mahoko said.

The police spokesperson said they are now looking for the five robbers and urged members of the
public who might have information leading to the arrest of the suspects to visit any nearest police
station.

He said members of the public should enhance the security.
