Robbers ransack Red Cross

GWERU – Three robbers pounced on Zimbabwe Red Cross Society Gweru last Friday and made off
with cash and property valued at US$10 650 after abandoning some worth US$5 500 outside as they
escaped.
The robbers stormed the organisation’s offices on the outskirts of Gweru Central Business District
around 3am when the complainant who was not named by the police was on night duty.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the Red Cross worker heard the
main door which was locked being forced open.
The three robbers entered the building and went to the manager’s office where they force-opened
the door and stole three laptops.
“The robbers confronted the complainant, wrestled her and took her cellphone,” Insp. Mahoko said.
The woman allegedly sprayed two of the suspects with a paper spray and they briefly ran out before
returning to join their colleague who had remained inside.
“They manhandled the complainant and tied her hands and legs with a wire and straps,” he said.
The robbers allegedly force-opened the Accountant’s office and took a safe, blasted it open and
stole US$1 502, a Samsung cellphone, a mini projector, an adaptor, and a solar battery.
The provincial police spokesperson said the worker who was accosted by the robbers was taken to
hospital where she was treated and discharged.
Property worth US$5 500 of the US$16 150 stolen was recovered after being abandoned outside.
Insp Mahoko appealed to people who have information on the case to report at the nearest police
station.
